Pre-Wash vs. Post-Wash Oiling

Most hair routines actually benefit from both, just at different times and for different goals. Here's how to use our Nourishing Oil strategically:

Pre-Wash: Oiling Before You Shampoo

Pre-wash oiling prepares your hair for washing. It acts like a gentle conditioner, protecting your strands from harsh cleansing agents and preventing dryness and tangles.

This is especially helpful if you:

  • Use clarifying shampoos

  • Have dry, damaged, or color-treated hair

  • Often have tangles and knots after shampooing

How to do it:

Apply the hair oil directly to dry hair, focusing on the mid-lengths and ends, and work it through with your fingers or a wide-tooth comb. Leave it on for 30 minutes, or up to overnight for a more intensive treatment, then shampoo as usual.

How Often Should You Do It?

You don't have to oil before every wash, unless your hair really needs it. But doing it once a week or every other wash really makes a difference in how your hair feels and behaves, especially if you use heat styling and get chemical treatments.

Post-Wash: Oiling After You Shampoo

When your goal is shine, softness, and day-to-day manageability, our Nourishing Oil earns its place as a post-wash product.

This is the version most people are already familiar with: a finishing step that smooths flyaways and keeps ends looking healthy between washes.

How to do it:

Take a dime-sized amount of oil and apply it to the tips of freshly washed or dry hair. This helps prevent split ends, seals in moisture, and adds a natural shine without weighing down your roots.

Not All Hair Oils Are Created Equal

Kerotin’s Nourishing Oil is a blend of nine nutrient-rich oils, including argan, jojoba, avocado, sweet almond, grapeseed, pumpkin seed, hempseed, and apricot oil. Rather than sitting on top of hair with a heavy, greasy coating the way many single-oil or silicone-based formulas do, this blend combines lightweight emollients like jojoba (which closely mimics the scalp's natural oils) with richer conditioning oils like avocado and sweet almond, giving you nourishment without buildup.

It's also formulated to be gentle enough for sensitive and acne-prone skin, and versatile enough to work as both a pre-wash treatment and a post-wash finishing oil, so you're not juggling multiple products for different steps of your routine.
