  • People who are pregnant: Because Nettle Leaf might stimulate uterine contractions, which may contribute to miscarriage

  • People with diabetes: Patients with diabetes should monitor their blood sugar closely when using Nettle Leaf since there is some evidence that this extract might lower blood sugar levels or even could strengthen the effects of medications, raising the risk of

    hypoglycaemia.

  • People with kidney or bladder issues: Nettle Leaf can have a diuretic effect, which may increase the effects of water pills, raising the risk of dehydration. It also may reduce the body's ability to remove Lithium, so as always, speak with your doctor about it.

  • Speak to your doctor if you’re taking one of the following: Blood thinners, Blood pressure medication, and Non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs).

4. Oat Straw Powder (Avena sativa)

  • Speak to your doctor if you’re taking one of the following: glaucoma medications, thyroid medications, barbiturates, sedatives, drugs that affect serotonin, HIV medication, Blood thinners, Chemotherapy drugs

Ps: In some cases, the drug doses may need to be separated by several hours to avoid interactions. In others, a dose reduction or change of medication may be needed.

  • People having surgery: The extract might cause too much drowsiness if combined with medications used during and after surgery. The recommendation is to stop using Lemon Balm at least two weeks before a scheduled surgery

  • People with thyroid disease: It is recommended to avoid consuming Lemon Balm Extract when you have thyroid disease because it can reduce thyroid hormone levels, interfering with any medications or replacement therapy

6. Ashwagandha Extract

→ Side Effects

The side effects of using the Ashwagandha may include:

  • Nausea

  • Headache

  • Drowsiness

  • Stomach irritation - especially if you have ulcers

  • Diarrhoea

"Ashwagandha is a safe herb when used as directed. When taking doses exceeding recommendations or larger doses, it may cause digestive upset or nausea."

→ Contraindications

The contraindications of using the Ashwagandha may include (people who should not use it):

  • People who are pregnant: At higher doses (more than the dietary recommendations), Ashwagandha is likely unsafe to be used during pregnancy because some evidence suggests that it may cause miscarriages

  • Patients taking benzodiazepines, anticonvulsants, or barbiturates should likely avoid ashwagandha because this botanical may have sedative and GABAnergic effects

  • People with polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS): Ashwagandha extract is known for increasing testosterone levels alongside reducing cortisol levels, which can be beneficial for men and women - if you achieve the optimal levels. On the other hand, high testosterone levels are commonly seen in PCOS. So, consuming an extract that boosts this hormone can negatively affect those women that already have this hormone in excess

  • Autoimmune diseases: When you have those disorders, you are attacking your healthy cells by mistake. So, if you boost your immune system by taking the ashwagandha extract, you may increase the usual symptoms exactly because your body has become

    more active

  • People with high blood pressure: Some research indicates that Ashwagandha extract has a blood pressure-lowering effect, which could be a concern for people with high or low blood pressure because it can unbalance your levels. For those who have high blood pressure and take prescribed medications, you may experience an interaction between the extract and the drug or even an unexpected drop in your blood pressure; If you have low blood pressure, the extract could lower even your levels.

  • People with diabetes: Animal studies suggest that this extract might lower blood sugar levels, which is suitable for people with this condition. However, if you already take medications designed to lower blood sugar levels, adding the extract could cause blood sugar levels to drop too low unexpectedly. Patients with diabetes should monitor their blood sugar closely when using the extract

  • People having surgery: Animal studies suggest that this extract might have a sedating or tranquilizing effect related to its ability to make you calmer by slowing down the nervous system. However, healthcare providers worry that the extract may increase this effect when combined with drugs used during and after surgery. It is recommended to stop taking the extract at least 2 weeks before scheduled surgery and let your surgeon know about any supplements you take
